As you enter Nepal, you get to witness green hills, settlement areas, and snow-capped mountains at a far distance. After landing at the Tribhuvan International Airport, you get welcomed by our team representative at the terminal gate. He will take you to the hotel, and later, in the evening, you will have a welcome dinner organized by the company.

We have organized a guided sightseeing tour for you during which you visit several monuments like Kathmandu Durbar Square, Swayambhunath, Pashupatinath Temple, and Boudhnath Stupa. These places are part of UNESCO World Heritage Sites. You get guided by a professional tour guide who will brief you about these monuments.

Today, you will take a scenic flight to Tumlingta and drive to Chichira. Upon landing at the airport, you will meet with other crew members who will join you on the journey.

You begin trekking early and head towards Num. The trail will be easy and passes through picturesque villages and lush forests.

The trail steeply descends through dense forest and beautiful terraced farms. You will reach Barun River and cross it. From here, you ascend on a steep path. Further, you register your permits and trek through Makalu Barun National Park and reach Seduwa.

Leaving Seduwa behind, the trail ascends a ridge surrounded by Ipsuwa Khola on the west and Kasuwa Khola to the east. You will then cross a hillside through fine villages and lovely paddy fields. From here, you trek and reach Tashi Gaon from where you get to see stunning views of Himalayan mountains.

The trail is going to be tough today because of the steep path and elevation. After having a warm breakfast, you begin ascending through lush forest to a stream and climb to a ridge. Further, the trail gets steeper and passes by grazing land. You will then follow a series of rough stone stairs and reach near a small lake. From here, the trail climbs to Khongma Danda.

Today, you will take a rest day and rest. You will also explore surrounding areas and prepare yourself for tough coming tough climb to Shipton La Pass.

You will wake up early and begin ascending towards Shipton La Pass. From the top of the pass, you get to see stunning surrounding views. The trail descends and passes by Kalo Pokhari and move towards Dobato. On the way, you get to see wonderful views of Mt. Chamlong, Peak 6, Peak 7, etc.

The trail moves through lush rhododendron forests and takes you to the Barun River. The trial will include steep climb for the first couple of hours and lead you to Yangri Kharka.

The trail gradually passes through yak pastures, lush forests, and boulder fields. You will then pass through Merek and continue walking enjoying superb views of Langmale Kharka.

Today, you reach Makalu Base Camp. Leaving Langmale Kharka, you ascend to Shershong and walk on glaciers to reach the base camp. On the way, you get to see panoramic views of Himalayan massifs and tempting scenery.

Makalu Base Camp is a rocky barren place with huge Barun Glacier beyond it. Today, you will explore the base camp and its nearby areas. You will get to see an excellent view of the south face of Mt. Makalu, Mt. Everest, Mt. Lhotse, and the other Himalayas.

From Makalu Base Camp, the trail gradually descends to Yangla Kharka. On the way, you get to witness the last views of Mt. Makalu and pass through Shersong, Langmale Kharka, and Merek to reach Yangla Kharka.

After having a delicious breakfast, you descend through rock falls, lush green forests, and fine valleys to Dobato. Following the riverbank of Barun river, you drop down to Dobato village.

The trail steeply climbs from Dobato to Mumbuk. From here, you trek through lush forest of rhododendron and crosses Keke La, Tutu La, and Kauma La. Crossing these three passes, you descend to Khongma Danda.

Continuing your trek, you descend on a steep trail through hillsides. Further, the trail passes through dense forests and take you Tashi Gaon. It is a beautiful Sherpa village, where you get to see the daily lifestyle of the locals.

From Tashi Gaon, you retrace the path and come out of Makalu Barun National Park. The trail descends to the Barun River and crosses a hillside. Further, you walk in small villages and reach Seduwa.

Today, you will retrace the path and trek through lush forests. The trail ascends and descends and passes by more lush forest. You will then descend and reach Num.

Leaving Num behind, you trek on the same path as before and move towards Chichira. Enjoying the last views of Mt. Makalu, you reach Chichira and drive back to Tumlingtar for a night stay.

After having a quick breakfast, you fly back to Kathmandu. You will then drive to the hotel and relax for the day. You are free to explore the nearby area on your own.

This is an extra day in Kathmandu. You will spend the day visiting tourist sites and doing shopping. If you want to have a guided sightseeing tour do let us know beforehand. In the evening, you will have a farewell dinner with the team members and end your day.

The time comes when we say goodbye to each other. Today, you will fly back to your home. One of our team delegates will transfer you to the Airport as per your flight schedule.

Accommodation during Makalu Base Camp Trek

During Makalu Base Camp Trek, you will either stay in teahouses or camp. It depends on the time and availability. The services in teahouses are nothing fancy even you will get the most basic room with a bed, blanket, and pillow to pass the night. Rooms mostly have two beds, which means you need to share it with a fellow trekker.

We recommend you to get a nice sleeping bag for yourself as it can get very cold at night and the blanket provide in the teahouse will not be enough. While camping all the necessary equipment is carried by us.

Food & Water on Makalu Base Camp Trek

If you are staying in the teahouse, then all the meals will be served by their menu. Dishes like dal bhaat, veggies, curries, chapati, bread, eggs, meat, noodles, momo, thukpa, rice pudding, etc can be seen on the menu. During your stay in camp, our trained porters will cook and serve the meals. You can ask them to make a particular dish for you as per the availability.

You can get boiled water in the teahouse. and can fill your bottle. Plastic water bottles are available on the trail, but it will cost you a fortune and only increase waste. Therefore, we highly suggest you carry reusable water.
