About Everest Three Passes Trek

Everest Three High Passes Trek is one of the very famous and strenuous trekking packages in the Khumbu region. Three High Passes Trek break your boundaries and leads you to the top of three challenging passes of the region, Renjo La Pass (5,340 m), Cho La Pass (5,420 m), and Kongma La Pass (5,535 m). This is an ideal trek for those who are seeking more than just a regular trek and are in quest of adrenaline adventure. Crossing three passes means traversing in the hidden parts of the Khumbu region. The trail is difficult, however panoramic views of the Himalayan mountains and gorgeous scenery will fuel you throughout the journey.

Everest Three High Passes Trek offers not only beautiful views but also lets you experience the rich culture of Sherpas. The trail passes through many villages, where you get to observe the daily lifestyle of the locals. Similarly, you get to interact with them and understand their unique life in this extreme region. You visit several stupas and monasteries on the way. The trail passes through Sagarmatha National Park, one of the UNESCO World Natural Heritage Sites.

As per our itinerary, you will cross the first pass Renjo La Pass and descend to picturesque Gokyo village. Here, you will go on a short hike to Gokyo Ri and witness stunning Gokyo Lakes. The trail ascends to the moraine of Ngozumpa glacier and crosses the second pass, Cho La Pass. The trail leads to Everest Base Camp (5,365 m) via small villages. Upon your arrival at the Tribhuvan International Airport, one of our team members will pick you, and take you to the hotel. Everything for your trip with us has been booked in advance. Rest for a few hours, and in the evening, join welcome dinner organized by the company.

Have a delicious breakfast and go on a guided sightseeing tour. Visit monuments like Pashupatinath Temple, Boudhnath Stupa, Swayambhunath, PatanDurbar Square, and Kathmandu Durbar Square. All of these places are part of UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Later, in the day, you will prepare for Chulu West Peak Climbing.

Lukla is the starting point of our trek. To reach here, you will take a short thrilling flight. The flight offers distant views of Himalayas. Upon landing at Lukla, you meet with other team members and head towards Phakding. From Lukla, the trail descends along with a stream and passes through Cheplung village before reaching Phakding.

Crossing Dudh Koshi River multiple times over bridges, you reach Benkar village. Further, you cross more bridges and reach Monjo village. The trail from here goes through Sagarmatha National Park, which is the habitat of numerous flora and fauna. The trail from the park is steep and difficult. Namche Bazar will welcome you with a stunning view of Lhotse, Everest, Tawache, and other mountains.

This is an acclimatization day. The day is designed to let your body adjust with the increasing altitude. You will explore Namche Bazar and visit places like the Sherpa Culture Museum and Everest Photo Gallery. You will also go on short excursions to nearby places like Everest View Hotel or Khumjung village. There are so many things to do and look around in Namche Bazar.

The trail steeply moves towards the north-west and lead you to Nangpo Drangpo valley (Bhote Khosi). Trekking through lush forests of rhododendron, you pass through a lovely waterfall and cross Kyajo Khola. From Thamo village, you ascend and reach Tesi Lapcha Pass. Further, trek for around an hour and a half to reach Thame.

The trail today is peaceful. You trek and reach Tangmote and descend passing through a huge chorten. From here, trekking on a trodden trail, you pass by many mani walls and reach Yellajung. Further, the trail ascends and passes through several small villages and lead you to Lungden.

Today, it is going to be a challenging day. The trail ascends towards Black Lake. From here, you walk on stone steps and reach Renjo La Pass. From the top of the pass, you get to see the awesome landscape. Later, you designed to beautiful Gokyo Valley for night stay.

Today is a rest day. You go on a short hike to Gokyo Ri to acclimatize your body and witness excellent mountain views. From the viewpoint, you see views of Mt. Everest, Mt. Makalu, Mt. Cho Oyu, and several other mountains along with stunning Gokyo Lakes. You return back to the village after exploring around.

The trail descends and passes through a lake. Further, you ascend the moraine of Ngozumpa glacier and cross it. From here, the trail involves a few ascends & descends and takes you to Dragnak.

The trail ascends and crosses a grassy saddle. You then descend to Chyugima and ascend towards Cho La Pass. The trail to the pass is scree and rocky. Some parts can get slippery as well. From the pass, you enjoy breath-taking views and descend to Dzongla

Today, you begin trekking early in the morning. The trail ascends towards Everest Base Camp via Gorak Shep. Make sure to follow the lead of your guide carefully as the trail can get misleading. Ascending through rocky dunes, moraines, and streams, you reach Everest Base Camp. From the base camp, you get to see panoramic views of the Himalayas. Spending some time, you descend to Gorak Shep for a night stay.

Wake up early in the morning and hike up to Kala Patthar to witness gorgeous sunrise. Located at 5,545 meters, Kala Patthar is a very famous viewpoint in the Khumbu region. From the viewpoint, you get to see panoramic views of the Himalayas along with a 360-degree view of Everest and glorious sunrise. Spend some time observing this surreal view and then trek back to Lobuche.

The trail ascends towards Khumbu glacier and turns to Kongma La base camp. From here, ascending on a steep rocky trail, you reach the top of the pass. Further, the trail descends to Imja Khola Valley and then continues to drop down to Chhukung.

Today is a day of rest day. You will explore the village and its nearby areas. It is a good chance to look into the daily lifestyle of the locals and their vibrant culture.

Following the same trail back, you descend to Debuche. On the way, you get to see lovely landscape views.

From Pangboche, the trail descends to Imja Khola and ascends through lush forests towards Tengboche. From here, you descend through dense forests of juniper and rhododendron and cross a bridge over Dudh Koshi to reach Sansa. The trail then passes through another forest and takes you to Namche Bazar.

After having breakfast, you begin descending through the national park. Crossing several small villages and streams, you reach Phakding for night stay.

Leaving Phakding behind, you ascend through forests path along a stream and reach Lukla.

Today, you fly back to Kathmandu enjoying the last views of the Himalayas. Upon landing at Kathmandu, you head to the hotel.

What to expect during Everest Three High Passes Trek?

Everest Three High Passes Trek is an adventurous and challenging journey. During the trek, you cross three high passes of the Khumbu region that can get super difficult. Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS) Symptoms & Prevention

Acute mountain sickness is also popularly known as altitude sickness, which happens due to high altitude. More specifically, AMS is an illness that usually occurs during high altitude journey when the body did not get acclimatized with increased altitude. Keeping this in mind, we take all the measures to keep you away from altitude sickness during the trek.

  • Do not drink alcoholic beverages
  • Do not gain more than 500 meters in a day
  • Try to spend the night in lower altitude
  • Acclimatize properly at a lower altitude
  • Inform your guide immediately if any of the symptoms you see
  • Do not push yourself

Best time to go to Everest Three High Passes Trek

Spring (March to May) and Autumn (October to November) is the best time to go on Three Passes Trek. During this time of the year, the weather is more on the stable side along with a moderate climate, which is perfect for trekking in the Himalayas.

Winter and Monsoon are not the ideal time to go on Everest Three Passes Trek. Heavy snowfall and rain make the trail dangerous and views unclear.

Accommodation during Everest Three High Passes Trek

You will stay overnight in the lodge or guest house as per the availability. There will be basic facilities in the lodge with the small twin-sharing room. Single rooms are not available most of the time. In some places, you might find attached washrooms, but generally, the washroom is on a sharing basis. We will try our best to book you the best available night stay for you.

Food & Water on Everest Base Camp Trek

Dal bhat tarkari is the most staple, energizing, and affordable option to have as a meal. In the lower altitude, you will find a wide range of food options from pasta, sandwiches, pastries, pudding, porridge, momo to several options of beverages. As the altitude increases, the price of the food gets higher, and the option becomes limited.

Travel Insurance

Getting travel insurance is like a backup that you can relay during emergencies. It is very important to take our travel insurance when you are traversing in remote areas, where there are no facilities. Our guides are well-trained in first aid and can handle any situation calmly, but if things get out of control then you might have to get airlifted. In this case, travel insurance comes handy. We strongly recommend that you take out well-covering travel insurance for you that covers things like evacuation, medical bills, theft, and loss of property.
